LOS LOBOS

Headliner

Saturday - August 22, 2026

We are beyond excited to have LOS LOBOS headline the third annual Maui Music and Food Experience! LOS LOBOS began in 1973 when David Hidalgo, Louie Perez, Cesar Rosas, and Conrad Lozano earned their stripes playing Mexican folk music at restaurants and parties. The band evolved in the 1980s, tapping into L.A.’s punk and college rock scenes and sharing bills with bands like the Circle Jerks and the Blasters, whose saxophonist Steve Berlin joined LOS LOBOS in 1984. Early on, the band won the Grammy® for Best Mexican-American Performance for “Anselma” and scored a college rock sensation with their major-label debut, How Will the Wolf Survive?, tying with Bruce Springsteen as Rolling Stone’s Artist of the Year.

A major turning point came in 1987 when LOS LOBOS’ cover of “La Bamba” topped charts in the U.S. and U.K. Rather than chase commercial success, they pivoted to record La Pistola y El Corazón, winning another Grammy® in 1989. That spirit of artistic reinvention has defined the band ever since — from the acclaimed Kiko (1992) to a string of bold albums spanning decades, plus a Grammy® for Best Pop Instrumental Performance and another for Best Americana Album with Native Sons (2022). Fifty years in, LOS LOBOS remains a rare and enduring force, their music a living embodiment of America’s cultural melting pot — weaving son jarocho, Tejano, R&B, rock ‘n’ roll, and punk into something genuinely their own.

Taimane

Friday - August 21, 2026

Virtuoso, songwriter, singer and producer, Taimane, is best known for her fierce and inventive style of playing the ukulele helping the hapa Sāmoan (part Caucasian and part native Sāmoan) artist earn four Nā Hōkū Hanohano awards and garner over 50 million video views and over 500,000 social media followers to date. Hailing from a musical Polynesian family including her late mother, Palepa Tauiliili Gardner (Miss Sāmoa 1978), Taimane’s attraction to the four-string island staple began at age 5. By age 10, she regularly performed in public, busking in Waikiki every Friday night with her father holding down security duties and Waikiki Beach Boys (adults whose home & workplace was the beach) serving as her band. By age 13, Taimane landed a position in Don Ho’s show literally playing in the spotlight every week until Ho’s passing.

Fast forward to today, and you have an artist who tours the world and has carved out a unique niche in music – merging a wide-array of genres, from Bach to rock, flamenco infernos to tribal hymns, summoning a seemingly limitless palette of emotions via an instrument previously viewed as restricted.
